Kampala Marriott Opens: What It Adds for Uganda Travellers
The new Kampala Marriott Hotel and Executive Apartments add 181 rooms, 96 serviced apartments and substantial meeting space—but the real question is how they fit a Uganda journey.

Kampala's accommodation landscape gained a significant new option when Marriott International announced the opening of Kampala Marriott Hotel and Marriott Executive Apartments Kampala in August 2026.
The dual-branded development in Nsambya combines 181 hotel rooms and suites with 96 serviced apartments. Its scale is notable, but the useful question for a traveller is simpler: when does this property make sense within a Uganda journey?
Two types of stay in one development
The hotel and the executive apartments serve different needs.
Kampala Marriott Hotel offers 181 rooms and suites for shorter business and leisure stays. Marriott Executive Apartments Kampala adds 96 serviced apartments, designed for guests who need more residential space or a longer base in the city.
That distinction matters for project teams, relocating families and extended business visits. It may also suit safari travellers who want a slower arrival, more space after a long international flight or several city nights around meetings.
The correct choice depends on length of stay, room configuration and whether apartment facilities are genuinely useful—not simply which brand appears first in a search.
Location: useful, but traffic still decides timing
The property is in Nsambya on Ggaba Road, within reach of central Kampala, business districts, diplomatic areas, restaurants and city attractions.
Location should not be translated into a fixed airport-transfer time. Entebbe International Airport is approximately 40 kilometres away, but traffic can change the journey substantially.
For an international departure, the transfer should be planned around the flight, time of day and current road conditions. A city hotel does not remove the need for a realistic airport buffer.
Rooms, dining and wellness
Marriott's current property information lists 181 contemporary rooms and suites, along with an outdoor pool, spa and fitness centre. It also presents three restaurants and three bars, creating several dining options within the hotel.
These facilities can be valuable on a first or final night, when guests may prefer to rest rather than add another city movement. They can also support mixed itineraries in which one traveller has meetings while another needs a comfortable daytime base.
Specific room views, connecting arrangements, lounge access and restaurant operating times should be confirmed for the booked category. A general property description should not be treated as a room-level guarantee.
A substantial meetings option
The hotel lists six event rooms and 1,293 square metres of total event space. The largest space has a stated capacity of up to 985 guests, depending on configuration.
That positions the property for conferences, launches, corporate meetings and social events as well as accommodation.
For groups, the relevant questions go beyond maximum capacity:
- Which room layout is required?
- Are accommodation and meeting space contracted together?
- What arrival pattern is expected?
- How will airport and city transfers be managed?
- Does the programme include pre- or post-event travel?
An event hotel becomes part of a destination experience only when those logistics are connected.
Where it fits in a safari itinerary
Kampala and Entebbe are not interchangeable overnight points.
A Kampala stay may be suitable when guests have city meetings, an event, a cultural programme or business in the capital. An Entebbe stay may be more practical for a late arrival followed by an early flight, depending on the next movement.
The decision should be based on the whole route. For example:
- choose Kampala when the city itself is part of the programme;
- consider Entebbe when airport proximity is the priority;
- allow a recovery night after a late long-haul arrival; and
- avoid sending guests across the city twice simply to use a particular hotel.
The new Marriott increases choice, but good itinerary design still comes before brand preference.

What the opening adds to Kampala
The development expands the capital's premium room stock, extended-stay capacity and large-event infrastructure. The Office of the President reported more than 350 direct jobs, approximately 95% held by Ugandan nationals, and substantial local procurement at the time of the official inauguration.
Those figures describe the opening period and may change. They are best understood as a starting point for the property's economic role rather than a permanent impact measure.
For tourism, the practical benefit is broader: planners have another option for travellers who need a recognised international hotel, longer-stay apartments, meetings and city access within one development.
Our approach to recommending it
We do not select a hotel from its opening announcement alone. The final recommendation should consider confirmed rates, room categories, service delivery, traffic, guest priorities and the next movement in the itinerary.
New properties also need operating time. Early guest feedback helps show how the published facilities translate into the actual stay.
