Big Five Game Drive

Kenya & Tanzania
5 – 7 days

About This Journey

The phrase "Big Five" was coined by hunters. We use it differently — as a reminder that in a few days in the right places, you can encounter lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino in the landscape they have always inhabited. This is a focused, expertly guided safari across two of East Africa's finest reserves, unhurried and deeply personal.

What This Journey Holds

  • Track the Big Five across Kenya's Masai Mara and Amboseli reserves
  • Spend an afternoon with a Maasai community and understand how they read the landscape
  • Walk with a former ranger who has spent decades in the bush — his knowledge is irreplaceable
  • Sundowners on a hill above the Mara as the light turns everything gold
  • Elephants at Amboseli with Kilimanjaro behind them — the iconic image, lived

Day by Day

Day 1:Nairobi to Masai Mara

Fly from Nairobi into the Masai Mara in just 45 minutes — the Rift Valley dropping away beneath you before the plains of the Mara open up. Arrive, settle in, and join your guide for a late afternoon drive. The Mara rarely disappoints on day one.

Day 2:Full Day in the Masai Mara

The whole day in the Mara, beginning before sunrise. Lion pride with cubs in the morning. Leopard spotted by your guide in a fig tree at midday — a cat that many visitors miss entirely. Your guide has spent fifteen years in this park and reads it like a second language.

Day 3:Maasai Culture & Evening Drive

A morning visit to a Maasai community that has lived alongside the wildlife of the Mara for centuries. Their relationship with lions is complicated, layered, and nothing like what you might expect. An afternoon rest, then a long evening drive that ends under stars so dense they cast shadows.

Day 4:Amboseli National Park

Fly south to Amboseli at the foot of Kilimanjaro. The mountain dominates everything here — when it is clear, and sometimes it is not, it fills the entire northern horizon above the dust and the swamps and the elephants moving slowly through. One of the great visual experiences in Africa.

Day 5:Final Morning & Departure

Dawn drive in Amboseli as the mountain turns from grey to pink to gold. Elephant families move against its base. You have one last morning with your guide, asking everything you forgot to ask before. Then the flight back to Nairobi, and the journey home.
